Background

Educational Institutions play a critical role in advancing sustainability through not only teaching and research, but also operations and stakeholder engagement. Sustainability Karma Campus Awards have been instituted to recognise and showcase such exemplary initiatives. Educational campuses are invited to submit their good practices in sustainability. These submissions will help document impactful initiatives, encourage peer learning, and inspire uptake of replicable and scalable models of sustainability across campuses.

Objectives

  • To share good practices that are innovative, replicable, scalable and impactful
  • To encourage integrated and holistic approaches to sustainability in education

    Submission Guidelines

    • Word limit: As specified in the template sections
    • File format: Text in word and photos in JEPEG (preferred)
    • Naming convention: InstitutionName_State_City_Category
    • Multiple submissions are allowed under different categories
    • Self-nomination or third-party nomination permitted

    Evaluation Criteria (Applicable to All Categories)

    • Innovation & Creativity

    Novelty of the idea or approach; creative use of methods, technology, or partnerships; goes beyond routine compliance or conventional practices

    • Impact & Measurable Outcomes

    Demonstrated environmental, social, and/or economic impact; use of quantitative indicators (e.g., energy saved, water conserved, emissions reduced); evidence-based results and documentation

    • Stakeholder Engagement

    Involvement of students, faculty, staff, and/or community; inclusiveness and participatory approach

    • Scalability & Replicability

    Potential to be scaled up within the institution; ease of replication by other campuses or communities

    • Sustainability & Long-Term Viability

    Institutionalisation of the initiative; financial, operational, and policy support for continuity

    Why Your Institution Should Participate

    Position your institution as a recognised Green Campus and gain national visibility for its leadership in sustainability.

    Selected initiatives will receive nationwide media exposure, including feature on All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan, with select campuses further highlighted on exclusive Sustainability Karma Podcasts on AIR.

    Strengthen your institution’s identity through green branding and secure lasting recognition by being featured in a national e-compendium of good practices and select institutions to be showcased in a book published by a global publisher.

    Participating institutions also receive free membership to Yuva for Sustainability, including an exclusive microsite, priority invitations to high-impact Yuva events, and valuable internship opportunities for students.

    Heads of Institutions will be invited to contribute guest columns and speaker sessions at prominent Yuva for Sustainability forums, while faculty members gain opportunities to become mentors.

    This initiative goes beyond recognition. It is an opportunity to lead, inspire and be recognised as a sustainability champion.
