Background

Individual educators and academic leaders play a pivotal role in advancing sustainability by shaping mindsets, influencing institutional practices, mentoring students, generating knowledge and engaging communities. Sustainability Karma Education Ambassador Awards have been instituted to recognise outstanding individual contributions that have created measurable impact and inspired sustainability action within and beyond campuses.

Objectives

▪ To recognise exemplary leadership and commitment of individual educators and academic leaders in sustainability
▪ To showcase innovative, impactful and replicable sustainability efforts led by individuals
▪ To encourage educators to integrate sustainability across teaching, research, operations and community engagement

Eligibility

▪ Individual educators, faculty members, principals, administrators and academic leaders
▪ Affiliated with universities, colleges or schools
▪ Contributions should be ongoing or sustained over time

    • Word limits as specified in each section
    • File format: Text in Word; photos in JPEG (preferred)
    • Naming convention: IndividualName_Institution_Category
    • Multiple submissions are allowed under different categories
    • Self-nomination or third-party nomination permitted

    Evaluation Criteria (Applicable to All Categories)

    Demonstrated leadership, ownership, initiative and sustained commitment to advancing sustainability

    • Impact & Measurable Outcomes

    Clear evidence of environmental, social, academic or institutional impact; use of qualitative and quantitative indicators

    • Stakeholder Engagement & Influence

    Extent of engagement with students, colleagues, administration, community or external partners.

    • Expansion and Outreach Potential

    Extent to which the initiative can grow in scale and meaningfully engage wider and more diverse stakeholders.

    • Sustainability & Long-Term Contribution

    Longevity, continuity and institutional embedding of the individual’s contribution.

    • Documentation & Presentation

    Clarity, completeness and quality of submission and supporting evidence.

    Why You Should Participate

    Positions you as a recognised Green Campus Champion and gain national visibility for your leadership in sustainability.

    Selected individuals will receive nationwide media exposure, including feature on All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan, with select individuals further highlighted on exclusive Sustainability Karma Podcasts on AIR.

    Strengthens your identity through green branding and secures lasting recognition by being featured in a national e-compendium of good practices and select individuals to be showcased in a book published by a global publisher.

    Participating individuals also receive free membership to Yuva for Sustainability, including invitations to high-impact Yuva for Sustainability events, and valuable  opportunities to mentor students.

    You will be invited to contribute guest columns and speaker sessions at prominent Yuva for Sustainability forums.

    This initiative goes beyond recognition. It is an opportunity to lead, inspire and be recognised as a sustainability champion.
