Effective communication with illiterate and differently-abled communities requires deep contextualisation rather than generic messaging, with tailoring content to diverse social realities. The primary challenge in inclusive storytelling is not a lack of creativity, but the sensitivity and intent needed to engage with India’s immense diversity. She stressed that communicators must go beyond one-size-fits-all approaches and recognise the lived experiences and communication needs of marginalised communities, said Urvashi Prasad, Former Director, NITI Aayog.
The expert was responding to a question raised by a Yuva sustainability intern on spreading sustainability and climate change awareness among illiterate and differently-abled communities, during the 1st Yuva Sustainability Webinar on Climate Change and Health: Communication Matters.
