Making circular living aspirational rather than an obligation requires intentional and effective communication that highlights everyday sustainable actions, said Neeru Dhawan, Head – Global Communication, UFlex, while responding to a question on how communication can inspire people to adopt circular practices.
The expert speaker was responding to a question by the Yuva Sustainability Intern on how communication can be used to make circular living aspirational and inspiring, rather than being perceived merely as an obligation, during a Yuva Sustainability knowledge session on telling climate and disaster stories right, where she emphasised that in the digital age, young people possess a powerful voice through social media and within their campuses, families and neighbourhoods. She noted that even small daily sustainable actions, when documented and shared, can motivate wider participation.
Dhawan encouraged youth to view environmental gap, such as recycling challenges, not as obstacles but as opportunities for innovation through collaboration, competitions and critical thinking. Defining effective communication as the ability to identify a problem, develop a solution and amplify its success, she concluded with a clear message to young people: their voices matter, and they should use them to drive aspirational circular living.
